How to distinguish between fire retardant coatings and flame retardant coatings

As a functional architectural coating, fire retardant coatings are also composed of binders, pigments, fillers and additives. The fire retardants and fire mechanisms of non-expandable fire retardant coatings (also known as foamed) fire retardant coatings are different. It is necessary to be rich in flame retardants (fire retardants) in the composition of non-expanding fire retardant coatings, such as phosphorus-containing and halogen-containing organic compounds (such as decabromodiphenyl ether), sodium borate, antimony trioxide, etc. Sodium borate is especially suitable for use as a flame retardant for vinyl acetate emulsions, and its filling amount is preferably 40% to 60% of the polymer based on a 10% solution. The flame retardant ability of antimony trioxide itself is not high, but when it can generate antimony trichloride in the early stage of incineration, for example, when it is used in combination with chlorinated paraffin, it will exert excellent flame retardant ability. In order to achieve excellent fire resistance, in addition to adding flame retardants, the selection of base materials is also very important. Since elements such as halogens (usually chlorine and bromine) and phosphorus contribute significantly to improving fire resistance, binders rich in these elements are preferred. For example, vinyl chloride or vinylidene chloride copolymer emulsions or chlorinated rubber emulsions are most preferred as binders. In addition, tricresyl phosphate and β-trichloroethylene phosphate should be selected as flame-retardant plasticizers. The fire protection mechanism of the intumescent fire retardant coating is that when the decorative layer of the fire retardant coating is exposed to the flame, the foamable components in the coating film are thermally decomposed to form a thermally insulating sponge-like foam layer, which then hinders the transmission of the flame. The fire-resistant additives in Tugua are mainly foaming components, including carbon sources, foaming agents and organic nitrogen compounds, which can be used together. Examples of various foaming ingredients are as follows: carbon source: starch, pentaerythritol, etc.; foaming agent: ammonium phosphate, ammonium dihydrogen phosphate, ammonium polyphosphate, sodium borate, etc.; organic nitrogen compounds: glycine, guanidine, dicyandiamide, urea , melamine, etc.

Flame retardant coatings are usually composed of binders, dispersion media, flame retardants, additives, fillers, solvents, etc. The binder is the main film-forming substance, which contains inorganic binders (silicates, phosphates, etc.) and organic binders (organic synthetic resins). Flame retardants are the key components of flame retardant coatings. At present, ammonium polyphosphate and organic halogenated phosphates are widely used abroad as the main agents, while domestic ammonium phosphate and ammonium metaphosphate are still used as the main agents. Auxiliary agents are used as auxiliary components in flame retardant coatings. The amount of additives is small, but the role cannot be ignored. It can greatly improve the flexibility, elasticity, adhesion, stability and other functions of coatings. Fillers can improve the decorative properties of coatings, and more importantly, improve the mechanical and physical functions (weather resistance, wear resistance) and chemical functions (acid and alkali resistance, corrosion resistance, etc.) of coatings. Rutile titanium dioxide is an excellent white filler widely used in Tucha. The solvent facilitates the dispersion of the components and facilitates application, resulting in a uniform, continuous coating. Usually water and organic solvents. (for reference only)
